Arctic Ice Fishing

Relax on a frozen lake, drill your own hole, and experience one of Lapland’s calmest winter traditions.

Frosty winter morning with a person ice fishing on a quiet river in Finnish Lapland.

Local Activity

Ice fishing is one of Lapland’s most traditional winter activities — calm, simple, and deeply connected to local life. On a frozen Arctic lake, you’ll learn the basics from a local guide, drill your own hole, and try your luck at catching fish beneath the ice.

With warm drinks and the quiet of the frozen landscape around you, it’s a peaceful Arctic experience that suits both beginners and families.

What to Expect

  • Head onto the ice – Walk out onto a frozen lake and take in the vast Arctic landscape before we get started.
  • Learn the basics – Your local guide will show you how to drill your hole, set up your gear, and fish through the ice.
  • Quiet winter moments – Ice fishing is calm and slow by nature — a peaceful break from the noise of everyday life.
  • Warm drinks included – We keep things cosy with hot drinks while you wait for a bite beneath the ice.
  • Beginner-friendly – No experience needed. This is an easygoing activity that suits families, first-timers, and anyone curious about real Lapland traditions.

Upgrade Your Experience

Want to make your Arctic Ice Fishing adventure even more memorable?
Add another activity to turn your winter day into a full Lapland experience.

  • Off-Trail Snowmobiling – Explore deep forests and untouched snow before or after your time on the ice.
  • Reindeer Farm & Sled Riding – Pair the calm of ice fishing with a traditional visit to a local reindeer farm.
  • Chasing the Northern Lights – Finish the day with a private aurora hunt into the Arctic night.
